Majora Carter – President & CEO

From 2001 to 2008 she was Executive Director of the non-profit she founded: Sustainable South Bronx – where she pioneered green-collar job training and placement systems in one of the most environmentally and economically challenged parts of the US. This MacArthur “genius” is now president of her own economic consulting firm, a co-host on Sundance Channel’s The Green, and host of a new special public radio series called, The Promised Land.

James Chase – VP of Marketing and Communications

Following a decade in NYC’s cable TV and advertising industries, James started volunteering as Communications Director for Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) in 2003, eventually coming on board full time. By applying effective messaging to the organization’s groundbreaking work in the field of green-collar job training, development, and policy, James has helped move the profile of urban environmental matters into the fore-front of the climate and built-environment debate.

Melissa Dougherty – VP of New Ventures

Melissa is a seasoned entrepreneur who has grown commercial ventures from the ground up. Over the course of her 20+ year career, she has worked in the US, Europe and South America. Following the successful completion of her last business, she organized volunteers in the Silicon Valley for the Obama campaign. At MCG, Melissa translates our pioneering ideas into viable businesses and projects, capable of driving lasting environmental and social change.

Walker Sands – Chief of Staff

An alumni of Time Warner’s New Line Cinema and the Jackie Robinson Foundation, Walker brings experience in human resources management, clientele development, and media marketing to the Majora Carter Group, LLC. Walker directly supports and coordinates Majora’s ambitious endeavors as a main point of contact for Majora Carter Group, LLC and Majora’s diverse roster of clientele, ventures and public functions.

John Mundy – Project Manager

As a student of international development and Spanish at the university of East Anglia, Norwich, John interned at the UN Development Program in New York, later working on eco-tourism projects in Peru. After interning with the British Parliament, working specifically with rural issues, agriculture and the environment, John joined the Obama campaign, organizing voters in New Hampshire and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. John draws on these diverse experiences to research, develop and implement sustainable development and economic solutions for our clients.

Tanya Fields – Program Assistant

A gifted environmental justice communicator with experience in grassroots organizing, Tanya is also a graduate of Baruch College. She began her career in the green economy as a Outreach Coordinator for Sustainable South Bronx. Following a successful tenure as SSBx, she joined the Majora Carter Group in 2009. Her expertise in community outreach will allow our clients to see and experience green jobs as one of the most viable pathways out of poverty while engendering in residents a deep sense of ownership in their communities.

Ivette LaGuerre – Office Coordinator

Born in Brooklyn, NY, her parents are from Puerto Rico and came to New York with their three other children to make a better life. Since the 80’s, Ivette has lived and worked in the community, raising a family, graduating from the Manhattan Business School, specializing in Administrative Assistance. She knows that she is in the right place to teach future generations that they can make their communities healthier and happier as a part of the Majora Carter Group, LLC.

Lori E. White – Communications Associate; New Media

A graduate with honors from UPenn, Lori has worked as a new media strategist with clients ranging from small startups, to upstart public figures and entertainers, to national brands and agencies. As communications and new media associate, Lori uses these new technologies and tools to create communities and campaigns where the real world and social media meet – working to provide a base for civic growth and economic development in places where civic infrastructure and cultural ties have literally been demolished from the built and found environment.
